Dog and Cat Vaccinations in Palos Heights
Every loving pet owner wants their four-legged friends to be healthy, and one of the best ways to make this happen is with vaccinations. Just like human vaccines, dog and cat vaccines mimic certain illnesses, which then helps create antibodies. As a result, the immune system is equipped to fight off certain disease-causing organisms, if it’s exposed to the real virus or disease. This is why it’s so important to keep your dog and cat vaccinated through every life stage.
Palos Animal Hospital is proud to be an AAHA-accredited animal hospital. This means we meet the highest standards in veterinary medicine, including our vaccination protocols for puppies, kittens, and adult dogs and cats. Your pet’s health is just as important to us as it is to you. We offer more than a dozen core and non-core vaccines (see below), which we can customize to meet your pet’s specific needs.
Core Vs. Non-Core Dog and Cat Vaccines
Dog and cat vaccines are divided into two categories: core and non-core. Core vaccines are those that are considered essential to a pet’s health, regardless of lifestyle. Some core vaccines, such as the rabies vaccine, are even required by law for pets. Non-core vaccines are those that are not essential for every pet’s health unless their risk of exposure to a certain illness is high. An example of a non-core vaccine is the feline leukemia virus vaccine. Because this potentially fatal virus is contagious among cats, it’s often recommended for cats that may come in contact with other cats.
